History
Beginnings
Our roots go back to the visit of Smith Wigglesworth, a Yorkshire plumber who became a very powerful evangelist, to Wellington in 1922.
After a series of miracle-loaded meetings in the Town Hall, during which hundreds came to Christ, our church was formed as the “Pentecostal Church of New Zealand”. We have minute books going right back to those days, and one of Smith’s bow ties!
In the early 1950s contact was made with the Elim Churches of Great Britain and consequently they sent out a Pastor Dunk and his wife to lead the church. The Elim Churches were birthed out of the Welsh Revival and from the ministry of the Jeffrey brothers. They pastored the church for twenty years during which other Elim Churches were planted.
The church had a number of faithful pastors in the following years. Under the ministry of the present Pastor and his wife, Mike and Jeannie Knott, over the last twenty years the church has seen significant growth and become international.
